Last year I measured all three brake discs on my Red Seca and it showed that the rear disc is too thin ( 0.302 inch compared to 0,320 minimum thickness). Measurements for the front discs were 0.279 and 0.288 comapred to the 0.280 spec. So basically I have to replace the rear disc and one front disc.
I havent ridden the Red Seca at all last year for many reasons, But i have this summer. Braking performance is not at its best, as you can imagine, even if I rebuikt the front brake system last year (SS lines), except for the discs themselves.

I also own two other Seca 900s for parts, the Black one (bought last year) and the Yellow one (bought two-three years ago) , I hoped I'd have good discs in specs on them so I went to measure them all this morning.

No luck for the rear discs, both of them are too thin (0.305 and 0.304). As for the front discs, the best are on the Yellow one (0.291 and 0.290). The Black one has one good disc (0.289) and one a bit thin (0.279).

I would have liked to simply swap the Yellow one front wheel with the Red one, but the front tire is shot. The best front tire of all three Secas is on the Black one. So my plan would be to swap Black one and Red one front wheels and use one good disc fron both wheels.

I have a few questions though: will a front disc 0.289 inch thick or so be good for a couple of years?

Is it better to keep the front axle and other bits with its original wheel?

Do Len sell rear disc for my model and year?

I just picked up used rotors on eBay for my 750rl and they are the same 31a part number for the 900. 85-86 fz750 use the same rotors, as mine are 100,000 ks on them and toasted missing about 1+ mm on each side

how old are your tires read the date code you should likely buy new tires.
the brakes are the most important part of the bike get new discs they are available

but have you checked out the bearings

should not need to keep wheel parts together for a swap they were all the same from the factory

Black Seca front tire date code is 4713, so this tire was made in 2013, good enough for me.

I haven't checked bearings yet, how do I do that?

The minimum thickness for original rotors is as follows (these specifications do NOT apply to aftermarket rotors). The maximum allowable "runout" or warpage is 0.15mm high-to-low for all models, all rotors:
    7.0mm for all XJ900RK front rotors. .27559"
    8.0mm for all XJ900RK rear rotors. .31496

oem rotors are discontinued with xj4ever

he does sell aftermarket rotors for the 900

Ah so, all of my front rotors are still within specs, but all rear ones definitely aren't.

are tires same brand and tread pattern as back tires?

    bearings
    wiggle and play drag smoothness
check for run out on rims (left right wiggle)
and for drag when spun (could just need to be regreased if they are open bearings

BLack Seca front tire is a Cruiser S/T, Red one rear tire is a Spitfire II.

Yes mismatched tires can get a bit hairy at higher lean angles

I wouldn't think these tires are mismatched

...depending on the tires in question, and the motorcycle.

And for some it's putt putt on Sunday down to the beach. But if I'm going to do a blast up and down the Fraser Canyon or the Hope Princeton, I want the match set please.True some tires have similar performance but most of the time I have seen different tires on a bike there is a big difference in performance. This is due to cost" just put a rim protector on it for now" I'll buy a new set next time :)
