Ok, i've got the bike; 85 maxX750; torn apart for the winter so while I wait for warm weather I want to clean up the brake drum and 'gear box' on the rear tire. I took a brass wire brush on a drill to them, got them cleaned up pretty good. Now I want to smooth them out and shine them up. hmmm what to do.

I have been working on all the parts getting them to look better. I found a thread on this site that discusses "polishing" aluminum. I worked this on the brake drum side and it looks much better. (Not quite as good as some of the other aluminum parts I have done, but much better than it did and I didn't really give it the attention I should have.)

Essentially, its a sanding project starting with 800, then 1500 and 2000 then a high quality polish. I have done this on some covers, fork lowers, wheel aluminum (with new paint for the black). etc. etc. and they all look sweet. Do a search for "aluminum polishing". I think it is by RickCoMatic, but not sure.

I didn't do the final drive because a PO used silver paint on it and I'm kinda afraid to look underneath.
