My master cylinder for the brake fluid is trash. Long story short the bike I bought (1982 Xj650 Maxim) all the bolts and screws are rusted into place. I tried everything to get the screws out of the brake fluid master cylinder but they wouldn't come out so I decided to drill them out. Then the screw head came out and pretty much its done. So I found 2 master cylinders on eBay. One for 77 bucks that's a 1982 maxim like mine and another for 5 bucks. Its untested but I figure its worth a shot for the price. BUT.. Its for a 1981 Xj 750. Does anyone know if this will work?

When the heads came off the top should come off also. Then you have a fresh opportunity to get the rest of the screws out.

Gentle heat, a little paraffin and a screw extractor/ left- handed drill.

NO the xj750 Seca is a different master cylinder than the maxim . The Seca is cable operated and is buried under the headlight. Try to get the old screw out like stumplifter said.

Next time use a hammer and a dot punch to move the screw around. The impact helps to loosen the corrosion and well you can figure out the rest. Lots of linear toque just snaps them - as you discovered.

On my dual disc 550 I used the m/c from a same era GPZ550 - seems fine after a reseal.

I just successfully removed the stripped screw my master cylinder cover using a Harbor Freight impact screwdriver. Replaced with a couple of hex screws from the local hardware store.

Drilling the screw heads off is another good method (actually it's the preferred method whnever possible). You'll leave the threaded portion of the fastener proud of the mastery cylinder body, which will allow you to get at them with vice-grips and penetrating fluid/ heat.
