So I was doing some cleaning on my dads carbs for him. All went well until I had everything put back together and started it. Fired up fine, but when I tried to throttle up, the throttle wouldn't turn at all then it "popped" and went all the way back with no return. Pulled the tank back off and it looks like the linkage is in one piece but I've never had this kind of problem before.
    Suggestions?

    more likely just came unhooked.

Be sure the throttle quadrant isn't trapped under a couple of fins on the back of the motor.

The linkage doesn't seem to have any spring attatched to it. seems like there should be one.

    Did you split the rack?

The only springs are on the throttle shaft through the carbs.

no, didnt split 'em. when I pull the throttle, the linkage comes up, just seems like there should be a spring attached to the linkage to return it to the collapsed state. What would keep the linkage in the up position then instead of returning?

if its not a spring, what returns the linkage from the up position to a collapsed position?

The linkage should return on its own. (it has three really strong springs in it.)

If it's not returning, something is CAUGHT somewhere. If it's not the throttle quadrant caught on the fins, it could be a carb clamp turned around and obstructing it.

The "return" on the throttle inkage is STRONG. It has to be hooked on something.

Slow down and take a (much) closer look at what you're doing.

Ok, it was hung up on what I'm guessing would be fin #2. Got it freed up and it returns just fine now. Again, thanks for the help!
