I've got one pilot screw on my 82 xj650 Maxim that is butchered. I've managed to clean out a little bit of the slot so the screwdriver drops in but can't turn it.
Anyone had any luck with removing and replacing? Or should I head to a machine shop?
I've already purchased four nos pilot screws from ebay which should arrive soon. It'd be nice to have the old one out by the time they arrive so I can ride again on the same day. Yeah.

Drop some Kroil down there & leave overnight.

Thanks but this is beyond any kind of oil. I think someone tried using a different kind of drill bit that sort of melted the little brass cap into the top of the pilot screw and then ground them both to a flat surface and tightened up the threads real tight in the process. I think maybe an easy out but I'm kind of nervous about trying it. But maybe if someone else has done it my confidence would be bolstered.

Fresh, crisp $20 note and a visit to the local machine shop is the recommended route.
