Getting the carbs rebuilt. Mechanic says I need a replacement butterfly for the number 1 carb as the current butterfly is worn and wont close enough to let the rpm fall back to where it should be when the throttle is closed between shifts. This is for a Hitachi carb, Any help would be appreciated.

    Littledragon

Now I am told I need the whole carb. It is carb#1 and it is an Hitachi carb I am told.

Not to steal a sale away, but do you KNOW that the butterfly is worn? Do you trust your mechanic enough to be sure that he wouldn't put it in backward, or not have the rack bench-synced first, to determine it's not closing right?

    Just wondering...........

He probably damaged it when he took the first one out like I did. It was my first time. Lol.

Got a good used one from chacal. Thanks again Len.

The rpm will not drop off as it should between shifts due to the butterfly not closing all the way. The first mechanic told me I needed a new butterfly. Shop owner I just called said to get the complete carb. He probably is thinking there might be other worn parts in carb#1, at least that's my guess.

Here's what I did. It was hard for me the first time on my first carb. The butterfly is a soft metal which if forced out it will smash the edges which would make it not seal properly. That's what was my problem. Got a good used one from chacal problem fixed. Tell them to put the butterfly from carb #2 and see if it seals. I bet also you don't need a new carb. Keep us updated.

That's exactly what the mechanic who pulled the carbs said. He said he tried to flatten the butterfly out more for a good seal but it just would not seal good enough to drop the rpm when the throttle is closed when shifting. It is the owner of the shop who I talked to when I found that I could get a butterfly online that told me I better by the whole carb. They are not open Monday but you can bet your last dollar I will be down there Tuesday after work to get the skinny on what I really need for sure. The I will place an order and hopefully get her back. They have had her a month already.

If you decide to get a whole body for them, then make sure that you get a complete o-ring set ....... Once they take the bodies apart your gonna want new ones in there..... Then you'll want to do ALL of them at the same time. Then you should also have a throttle shaft seals set put in too while everything
is apart. Heck, they've had it a month, what's a little more time? May as well.......

Honestly I'd tell the mechanic to put back together and that you want to come pick them up. I had absolutely ZERO experience with any carbs let alone 4. Now by DIY I could tell you everything about them. (Well almost) lol. With lots of help from the great people here.

It's up to you but I took mine apart about 20 times. Then I figured out what I messed up. It was the butterfly valve. There is no fixing it either other than getting another. If a used carb is cheap get it if you want but it's still gonna need work.

And the last thing I got off ebay took 12 day to arrive and it was 2 weeks ago. It was send from LA... an hour away. Bs. You can place an order with Len and have the part in a few days along with any other parts you need. I don't get paid by the guy just swear by him to be a honest seller and quick.

Hopefully at the shop they did this.

Also your gonna need to wet set your carbs after there good and cleaned and bench synced.

    http://www.xj4ever.com/setting%20fuel%20levels.pdf

Then you gonna need to do a running sync. And then your gonna need to adjust the air/fuel mixtures.

O and your valves are inspect to right?

    Brakes are good I hope?

Not trying to scare you off but all this needs to be done.
