There are two pins on the front brake callipers of my 81 seca 750. The pin holding the brake pads is good, but the pin holding the calliper is stuck I think. It moves freely within the slider frame but seems to be one with the calliper itself. Is it supposed to be like that? If not, what is the best method of fixing it.

mine are so loose they rattle, never thought about the pin being stuck ! I guess you take the bolts out of the forks and tap the pins out from the back

There is a cotter pin that holds the caliper pin in place so the caliper pin cannot move out of place during use.

I have a 82 maxim and on my bike there is a bolt that comes from the bottom of the caliper and comes out at the top of the caliper and has a nut and washer at the top, I just rebuilt mine and it's some what deceiving, you take the nut and washer off and you expect the bolt to slide out...Well, it don't, look at the bottom, the underside of the caliper, there is a dust cap, remove it, the bolt is threaded, you will need socket and ratchet to remove... Like I said, don't know about seca but this might help

You have a 650. The 750 brakes are entirely different.

I was able to take the pin out. It looks like the rubber bushings were the culprit. The bushings were super dry and would not let the pin go. After cleaning up and lubing the pin it has been better for sure. I still have a chatter from my brake pads at walking/running speed though, and they are brand new pads. Frustrating...

Clean and poilsh the pad retaining pin, and the anti-rattle springs as well as the pads that allow the caliper to slide on the caliper mounting block. Did you rebild the calipers? Old piston seals will keep the piston from retracting and lead to pad chatter. Chacal has the rubber boots for the calpier pin in stock, and they should be in place to help keep the caliper pin from getting stuck up with dirt.

I rebuilt the calipers last summer, but I didn't realize the pin was stuck at the time. It seems to be better now. I made sure everything is cleaned, polished and lubed as needed. So far, the brakes are quiet and work like they should. If I don's use the front brake, the rotors stay nice and cool. The right side used to get slightly warm sometimes, hence why I even looked at the pin to begin with.
Thanks for your help again guys!
