Cam chain adjustment help needed.

    I'm basically a rookie when it comes to working on bikes.
    (I've done a bit of riding, but this is my first "Real Bike")

    Anyway, I believe my cam chain is making noise.
    Can anyone tell me how to adjust my cam chain?
    Or do I need to take it someplace to have it done?
    I grew up on a farm, so I am used to working on things and have plenty of tools.

    Any help greatly appreciated.

    Its me again. Go to the search function at the top of the page. When the screen changes just type in xj700 cam chain adjustment and hit "search" an article on the XJ1100 will show up. Choose it and follow the instructions. Apparently all XJ's are the same

    No, they're not. Most 650's have manual-adjust cam chain tensioners. All 750's have automatic tensioners. Not sure about other models.

    The 550's have the "manual" adjuster.
