I dont have any exp. with carbs and I was given an estimate for $300 to clean, sync , check compression, change oil and air filter. Seca 750 1982
Would i be saving my self a major headache or should i try to mess with them myself. I think they are a little too complicated for me. also what does bench sync mean?

Is that price + parts ? If you can be sure it was done thoroughly that would be ok.
Bench sync' is setting up the butterflys so they all open equally, this is an essential step to get the bike running so you can do a vac' sync'.

$300 sounds a bit high to me. I was apprehensive of tackling my carbs on my own too. Fortunately, I found a fellow forum member 10 miles from my home. Polock, wonderful guy that he is offered and gave me some great help. The carbs really aren't as intimidating as I had first thought.

Anyhow, my advice to you is to do the same. Start a thread letting people know the area where you live and see if there is anyone near who is willing to help. You might have some luck and save yourself a bit of money!

    Good luck!

If the guy does good work, $300 is a steal. I was quoted $700 a year ago and he was the only one in town that would work on these older bikes. Go for it or bite the bullet and do it yourself, odds are you'll end up having to do it in the future.

Another member in my area needed new shaft seals/cleaning
    was quoted $800.00. Yes $800.00!
Another local guy just needed a sync and that was going to run
    $75-$100.00.
I was able to help these guy's out thanks to this site, so, do it yourself-it's very easy.

How many miles on the bike?

One small but very important detail that's seemingly been left out is the fact that the bike is most likely going to need a valve adjustment BEFORE any serious carb-tuning can commence. And for that price, he's not doing that. Plus, the oil change and air filter replacement are way too simple to pay somebody to do.

Honestly, owning and maintaining a 30-year old bike is generally a DIY proposition. If you're going to pay somebody for every little maintenance item, it's gonna get expensive quick.
