I sent a post about a week ago about my carb problem. I just wanted to know the process for cleaning out XJ550 carburetors. And as well what parts usually get easily damaged in this process and what usually gets damaged from just sitting over time that would need to be replaced. This would be a big help cause I'm new to fixing up bikes.

    Thanks

Search the forum for carb cleaning, there is a ton of info posted regarding carbs. It will take a while to peruse through it but its all there. If you have more questions after that. Before you tackle the carbs read all the info available... and get the XJ CD.

Those 550's are Blessed with Mikuni's ... right?

Them baby's are hard to kill. Depending on miles ... you can sometimes get-by with a set of Gaskets and some new Float Valves and Seats.

They're all Brass and Aluminum. Sweet. The castings and machine work are nothing short of perfect.

The Diaphragms seem to hold-up over-the-years, too.

You juss gotta git dem Carbs offa dat bike and gives 'em some LOVE!

Get them "Zestfully Clean" and Tune 'em 'til you run out of Tweak.

The sweet smell of Carb Cleaner, WD-40 and Marvel Mystery Oil.
