So I just bought a xj650 yics...Sight unseen cause I was out of town...the bike is in great shape but there are a few things that worry me, and I was hoping for another opinion.

    1st- 750 carbs on a 650?? who does this?
2nd- the guy welded (poorly) r1 headers onto the end of open headers to make a 2-1 exhaust.

So I am i the process of getting the carbs cleaned and in synch, but should I be wasting time and resources to do this or just try to buy the correct carbs? Can the 750 carb be made to synch with a 650 engine? Also I am sure he didnt even look into adjusting the carbs when he cut and redid the exhaust, and as these kinda affect each other I am thinking that this may be a headache. Any suggestions on if I should just strip and start over or is this not to hard to do. Any help please!

The Difference in the Carbs is: ALL the Jets are different from 650 -to- 750.

You can Replace the whole rack with the right set ... or ... ReJet.

    I wouldn't try to run and Fine-tune the Bike with a Jury-rigged -- Mickey Moused-up Exhaust.

BTW, the needle is different also. I went through this in the other direction.

I get that, but if I have open headers which will require a jet kit that essentially allows more fuel to compensate for less back pressure, isnt that going to be a bigger needle and jet anyway? I can see how the other way would cause a problem, but going bigger should work better right? Tell me if not, I am just trying to run through this in my head. I have always worked on cars and diesel boats so this is new to me. Just lookin for any input. Thanks

I can do that this afternoon. Its actually just the r1 headers welded, as I said POORLY, to the stock exhaust creating a 2-1. I will Have the pics posted an a few hours. Thinkin I can reweld correctly and make them look good, but I am trying to figure out what this does for pressure- Not sure where I am going to go with it yet.
