carbs off for tuning...any other suggestions?

wondering if anybody has other suggestions for me... its Easter Break for me this week and I want to get the bike running like a champ. over the last few months, I've noticed the carbs are running tad high (~1800-2100) rpms when warm and cannot lower it at all with the idle mixture screw. I plan to do the bench-sync (per Gamuru's instructions) today, change a few air-intake boots, and then use a carb tuner that a friend has later on this week once the bike is back together. I was just looking for any other suggestions/comments to help ease this task throughout the week?
