cdi trouble

    Can anyone tell me if a 81xj550 cdi box will work in an 82 xj650 and if so is the wiring the same as the xj650

    No, absolutely not (both the TCI and the wiring harness). You do need to obtain the correct TCI box for your model bike, otherwise it will run horribly!

    That being said, you should be able to use one from a 82-83 xj650 or 81-83 xj750, so you have some options (yics designation engines) . You could even go aftermarket which some members have done. For used ones just make sure the numbers match. I believe there's a 3 digit batch number stamp. but that's only signifying well, different batches.

    For me I used a tci from my old xj650 on my 750 seca with no issues.
