Semi-bob i guess. I had the original seat shaved and shaped a little more modern (i think). Lowered a little with progressive shocks and thinking on doing the white wall paint on trick. (there is actually a product to paint on white walls)

I looked on the shocks site and all of them are 12.5 like the stock. Am I missing something? Perfect height I'm looking for.

Hey Bill, I currently have a solo seat off an old dyna glide on my ride. Although it is very comfortable, it is clearly a little to large for the bike. The front of the seat rides up on the tank a little. Anyway, I was wondering how comfortable your seat is? I still have the original seat and considered shaving it like yours is, only I'd go solo.

My only worry is that the 30yr old foam will not be comfortable being so thin. Is it still comfortable enough to run a full tank of gas? Could you tell me approximately how thick it is since it was shaved? I've either got to shave the original or cut some of the nose off on the new one.

I changed the look of mine as well fairly easily too by trimming the seat back and putting on some koni shocks. Sprayed it with numerous coats of VHT satin black and clear. I was think about doing a ridged bobber but I'm happy with it the way it is atm.

From the lowest line of the seat it is about 4". The upholstery guy can take as much out as needed to glue on a more modern foam.
(I made him cut the very back upright plastic out where it is angled up toward the rear grab bar).

While I've got your attention, what do you know about using sportster mufflers? Do you know if I need to have a stock pair like I see on your bike or can I use a "slash cut" pair? I got a local guy who said he'd hook me up with a pair for $30. Said he's got a cpl sets but I liked the slash muffler he had at the shop. I just dont want to open another can of worms....

From what I remember, pre-2003 sportster mufflers work with some minor modifications... But cheap is cheap :)

This link uses JC Whitney mufflers with little to no modifications:

    Here is how they sound:

Ok, thanks for the link Bob. I see now that he is using jcwhitney add ons. They look very similar to the stock sportster, how they tapper at the end. They certainly sound nice too.

A 2" tapper is all I know to tell you. I could put the slash cut on these just be careful not to get into the baffle.

ha, sorry, i wasn't questioning the tapper. I just meant that that is how they look similar, the tapper looks the same.... I don't plan on cutting them!
