My package of shims arrived today (thanks again Chacal). Here's what I had before.

    #1 intake 0.08mm shim 270
    exhaust 0.16mm 270
    #2 intake 0.09 270
    exhaust 0.14 280
    #3 intake 0.11 270
    exhaust 0.15 280
    #4 intake 0.08 260
    exhaust 0.14 275

Changed 6 shims, and here are the clearances now:

    #1 intake 0.15mm shim 265
    exhaust 0.17mm 270 - no change
    #2 intake 0.15 265
    exhaust 0.17 275
    #3 intake 0.11 270 - no change
    exhaust 0.19 275
    #4 intake 0.15 255
    exhaust 0.20 270

It paid to check them a few times again, to be sure, as there is some variation of more than the 0.05mm sizes that the shims come in. Number 3 intake had a loose fitting 0.10 feeler gauge, and 0.11 fitted nice and close. The old shim is probably worn, so I'll check it aagain soon. I must have mucked up the measurement in #1 intake, to go from 0.08 to 0.15 on one shim size. 2 feeler gauges could have been stuck together, they are so thin it is easy to miss.

I have found a fuel leak on the throttle shaft seal of #1 carb, so it is time to break the rack for new seals.

I had another look under the cam cover. The cover bolt near #2 intake valve felt a bit strange....

I have not run the engine, and fished around to find any more bits. Don't want these floating around the cam. The bracket just holds the cover bolt, and sits above the cam. It does not have any shell bearings.
