charging problem!

    i have an 85 maxim x that hasnt run in 4 or 5 years and i've just got it running after cleanin the carbs and plugs etc but there seems to be a charging problem. i put a brand new battary in but the dame thing is not charging could someone help a brother out!

    I'm sorry Nw2thexj85, we could really use some more details before we can offer a course of action.
    What voltage measurements are you getting at the battery, both static and running? What do you read at 2500rpm? You should be seeing battery voltage (12.8 -13.8 VDC) at rest, slightly less with the key switched on and at least 14 VDC at 2500 rpm. Depending upon what you see, there are a few directions to head it. And don't forget to check the alternator brushes!
