I think I found The other significant contributor to the puddle under the bike. One was a loose oil drain pug. The other one was this:

You can't really see it in the picture because the oil is clean, but there is a thin stream running straight down. You can, however, see that the seal is all wonky.

A few minutes later there is a new seal in place.

You might notice that there is no wire on what I think is the neutral switch. That's because the wire had four breaks in the insulation that were taped over and a couple that weren't and it fell apart completely when I touched it. This is what's left of it.

So, I'll be soldering and heatshrinking once the solvent dries.

Remove the switch, flush it all out, make sure the plunger moves freely and the plastic isn't cracked on the other side THEN go ahead and re-solder (very carefully.) Install a new o-ring on it. Or just replace the silly thing; they're less than $20.

I don't think there is anything wrong with the switch. There isn't oil leaking out of it and, now that I fixed the miswire near the fusebox, the neutral light works. What fell apart was just the wire. The seal around the shaft was definitely leaking, though.

The funny thing is, that seal is the same as on the XS400. :)
