I have two used horns on the workbench. I want to test them to know if they work properlybefore I put them on my Seca.

I have a charged 12 volts battery on the shelf, and two leads I usually use with my ohm-meter.

My dumb question is: is there a risk that I toast my horns or my leads if I test my horns directly from the battery with these tiny leads?

Should be fine. The horns will be so loud (if working correctly) that it will quickly become a self-regulating issue.

Look closely at the decals on the horn mounting tabs there should be a slight difference in numbers, one being a "low" and the other a "high" tone horn. (Unless they're not a true pair.)

    Thanks Fitz

Yes, the decals are pretty obvious, they are a true pair.

    I just tested them.

The low tone sounded all right, not as loud as I would expect but correct.

The hi-tone was weak. I opened it up to give it a good brush. There was a small spider nest in there. Then tested it again, same result.

Then I loosened up the tiny bolt on the back and the sound became clear and loud.

I'll do the same with the low-tone until I get the loudest result.

Huuum, the low-tone little bugger bolt is stuck, I'll have to let the penetrating oil do its job overnight...

I was able to back off the tiny "tuner bolt" this morning, lo-tone is now loud and clear on the workbench, I hope it will be the same on the bike, and that I won't have to remove the fairing to install the horns.
