Hey guy's, I just finished sleaning my cabrs an i re-installed them last night. When i wen't to fire the bike up it would only run with full throttle and it wasn't reving high at that. The bike died after about a minute of me cranking the throttle and flooded. I played with it for about an hour and a half and got it running a couple more times after that but it kept dying. I was playing with the idle adjustment screw the whole time as well which made a bit of difference. I killed my battery so it is on charge today. I will be trying to get it going again to night. Any suggestions as to what might be wrong. It idled perfect before i cleaned the carbs, it would just run out of gas becuase they where so clogged.

Did you happen to set the float levels? Bench sync?

Whe we cleaned my carbs the bike was in one spot and the bike was in another so we synched them a best we could. I figured the bike would at least run and then i could bring it in and set the floats.

You need to set the floats before you put the carbs on the bike.

Yup, set those floats. Probably the reason why it'll only run when the throttle is wide open is because the throttle plates are open and allowing more air in.

Take a business card and cut four sections across the with about one-quarter of an inch wide. One complete cut across. No scissor hop.

    Close the carbs to start.
Using the Idle Adjustment Rod ... Open the Carbs so that you can slip one of those Business Card sections ... Under the #-3 Butterfly at its very botttom, (6 O'Clock) with that strip of Business Card almost trapped by the Butterfly.

Use the Business Card section as a "Feeler Gauge" and "Feel" both the Bottom of the Butterfly and the curve of the Carb Body beneath it.

You want the "Open Space" beneath the Butterfly to be as wide as the section of Business Card. Not stuck ... but, a tight fit.

Use the next slip and get #-4 to match the same "Friction drag" you just set #-3 at. To adjust the Butterfly of #-4 you make the adjustment to the Sync Screw on the Linkage for #-4.

Then, do #-1 and #-2 ... the very same way as you did #-4.

When you have all four sections of Business Card "Feeling" exactly the same as the initial adjustment you did on #-3 ...

    Congratulations ...

You, my good man ... are "Bench Synced"

(Don't get the Cable Attachment Stop for the Linkage stuck behind the Block when you put the Carbs back-on.

Sync-'em-up like that and you'll be on your way to fine-tuning in a GIANT STEP.
