Allright, I decided to use the electolysis method to clean my gas tank and wow. After only a couple hour test last night I was already seeing shiny stuff rather than rust. I will try to post pictures later. Just thought some of you guys might want to try this rather than a cleaning kit.

I have a website here with all the information. they stress SAFETY. as hydrogen is very volitile. ( explosive) I was temped to do this but i want to wait untill I can do this outside. the author also states it can take off some paints.

I can definatly take paint off if you dip the whole tank. I just filled the tank up and set it on a bench. Hydrogen is definatly volitile. I lit a couple of the bubble that came up and they sounded like firecrackers. I'll post a couple pics of my setup tonight. If you don't want to remove the paint it works much better.

so instead of dipping the tank close off the petcock hole? how were the electrodes placed? Ground to tank, positive to ?

please post a detailed set of instructions with before and after pics noow you have me interested as long as i don't hurt the paint.

I have done that with two tanks so far with great results. I used a bag of salt instead of the soda which was suggested. The salt took a few hours to work, but it cleaned the tanks perfect. It also cleans rusty steel parts if you hang'm in a bucket of the solution.
