Clutch cover gasket

    I was wondering if i could use liquid gasket for the side cover after i replace my clutch. I would think this would be easier and less likely to leak than making one out of gasket paper. Any input would be good. Thanks

    Why don't you just go down to the local Yam dealer and get the correct gasket.
    They may have to order it, but they can get it.

    Several of Permatex's products are specifically designed to be a gasket maker. If you lack the correct gasket, they should work just fine. Keep in mind that the two I used this past weekend specifically said to allow a 24 hour cure for the seal to be effective. If your cover is as tightly machined as my covers, you should have no problems (just follow the directions to the letter). I prefer the use of the correct gaskets but I have taken on the habit of applying a thin (and I do mean thin) film of RTV sealant on the gasket material to ensure a complete seal. I've read in all of my German engineering that if the machined surfaces are machine matched, gaskets are unnecessary, but this did not hold up in practice (witness my VW crankcases, matched from day one but leaks appeared within weeks, nature of the vibrating beast). I would like to suggest you check out Permatex's website ( http://www.permatex.com/Products/Automotive ) and check their applications suggestion chart. It is very informative and I'm glad I earmarked it on my favorites. Some of the gasket makers are not for use if exposed to fuel so be sure to read the fine print when making your selection.
