I was riding my bike around the neighborhood the other day and noticed at a stop light that I couldn't get the bike into Neutral without shutting off the engine.

I thought that maybe the clutch was not completely disengaging when I pulled the lever, so I attempted to adjust it.

When I did, I noticed that my lever was really loose and that when I pulled the lever and let go, it did not fully spring back into position.

Any ideas about how to remedy this situation... I am having to push the lever both ways to make sure the clutch re-engages.

OR a gummed up/sticky one , remove both ends and see if it slides in out free....

Has it possibly slipped out of the lower guide? If it has, you'll lose a significant amount of cable travel as the cable/housing move in response to the lever. How much have you pushed the cable out with the adjuster where it enter's the grip? For that matter, how old is the cable?

Possibly the cable housing collapsed? Had that happen on a VW once, interesting story.
