Generally, a "new clutch" consists of new friction plates and new springs.

Unless the bike has been horribly abused or has unusually high mileage on it, the rest of the components (plain plates, hub and basket) are usually serviceable once cleaned up.

It's all covered in this article; http://xjbikes.com/Forums/viewtopic/t=29541.html

Your clutch is simpler because it has no tabbed plain plates or clutch boss spring in a special friction plate to worry about. How it works, comes apart and goes together is essentially the same as shown in the article.

If you hit a snag, just ask. The only dumb question is the one you don't ask.

I'm going to do "Clutches 102 -- the Shafties" when I dig into the 650; but until then, the basic construction and operation is the same. Actually easier than the 550/600.

Just be patient and careful; read the instructions carefully first. It's important to line up the dot on the pressure plate with the dot in the basket; and not over-torque the spring's screws. Do use new springs; I prefer OEM over aftermarket myself. Remember to soak the new plates in oil for an hour or so ahead of reassembly.
