Sorry if this is an FAQ ... Need XJ 550 repair manual. Is the Clymer repair manual any good?
What are the options for shop manuals? "Official" manual from Amazon ~$80, clymers ~$30. eBay?

The Clymers has pretty much everything you'll need, although there are more helpful and more descriptive threads on this site than some of the parts of the book.

The Clymer isn't bad. For the good stuff you can't beat the writeups on here done by Bigfitz. He has done them for the major jobs.

Mainly because I struggled and bumped along for a couple of years with only the Clymer before I picked up a factory book to go with it.

The best thing is to have both; you can regularly snag factory books off eBay for under $30. Be sure if you get one, it has the Maxim Supplement.

That being said, there are things like the tach drive oil seals that aren't even mentioned in either book; plus the valve adjustment procedure pics in both don't help much at all. So I've tried to fill in the gaps.
