Based on my limited experience, yes it will be a good idea to replace your lines. Changing controls over to a different set of handlebars should be pretty straightforward.

If the brake master cylinder on the bike now is a "tilted style" you may need to switch to a flat one for perfectly flat bars. (See the xj4ever link and go to the master cylinder section for more info, this also depends on if you use the stock mirror mounts or not I believe)

I recommend getting proper length lines because most stock Xj bars have some kind of rise to them, most clip on bars I see are very low so you will have lots of extra cable wiggling around. Something you definitely do not want in your hydraulic brake lines.

Not to mention the fact that it would be visually unappealing to have extra lengths of throttle and clutch cable sticking out or looping around near your bars

The best search results come for using Google. Enter your keyword(s) followed by....

I find that method to work better for all internet forums.

You say it's something you don't want with your hydraulic brake lines. Why is that? What would happen if the wiggle too much? Or is it just not a good thing to have extra lines?

Lines and cables that are too long can kink . They also look terrible.

Also with a excess length cable you are more prone to the cable "flopping" (for lack of a better word) around, causing unnecessary stress on the connections.

Ok thats what i thought. I was just planning on finding a way to coil and zip-tie any excess cable neatly.
