    how do i install a cruise control on my 83 xj 550? any suggestions?

    that depends on what one you buy. THere are units that are bar ends that slide into the bar and lock the throttle(after all a throttle lock is what you want there really isn't a cruise for our bikes that i know of, pss I just leasrne dthe term too hehe..) Or I have seen the lever type that you have to remove the throttle twist and slide it on first then put the grip back on. The lever is easier to use but more work to install.

    This is the one I have.
    I sanded the Inside Diameters of the Pinchers with 800 & 1000
    Replaced the Allen "Plug" threaded holder with a Stainless Steel Cap Screw.

    With the Cap Screw instead of the Hex Plug, ... you can "Adjust" the Pinch Tension with your fingers.

    This will allow you to set the Tension to a Pinch which is tight enough to just defeat the pull of the Return Spring ...
    Allowing you to SET the CRUISE and relieve Torque Twisting at your wrist, ... but allowing you to move the Throttle Open and Closed without FLIPPING-OFF the Cruise Control.

    Hmm oh rick o buddy ole' pal. I didn't know they made one that just slips around I always remember well in the 80's hehe taking off the grip to put them on. Man Now I have to buy one.. I've been lookin anyways.
