I plan on putting a custom exhaust on a Turbo and I think I may have found a way how. I need to get a 4-1 set up that will fit where the old headers where, then once it gets the the turbo weld the new mufflers on after it comes out the turbo.

leave the 4 to 1 alone, that collect is specially designed for that engine, see how they seperate into two.. it's really a 4 to 2 to 1 type of thing.

as far as mufflers on? make up a little flange that can be bolted to the turbo. if not, cut off old one, weld on new one.

really though, these came from facture with pretty effiencent exhaust. And only gains you'll get is just sound. which the stock sounds is lovely IMHO.

What kind of exhaust did you have in mind?

Why do you want to change ?

i suppose you could open up the headers a bit, make a little more 'free-flowing' collector. I ported my turbo's exhaust and intake for better airflow.

but going that far, you might as well upgrade the turbo from a 6a to a 9b.

I am looking to do this swap myself on my newly acquired Seca Turbo. My Dad did the 4into1 swap with a welded on flange at the collector several years ago (1984) and I am not sure if it was the free flowing header to the flange or the larger turbo that was bolted to it. My Dad is a Gas/Diesel Marine Master Tech and knows a few things about turbocharging, so I listened to him and let him work his magic on the bike. He said the fingers as he called them on the stock exhaust was slowing some potential. I want to say he was right. The bike pulled hard alot earlier in the rpms. The turbo spun up much faster and full boost came on around 32-3500 rpm, much better than the 6k it probably hits now. The 4into1 with the flange will definitely open up some potential for different (larger) turbos. I do remember that the header he used was off to the right side of the bike and it offset the turbo a bit to the right. There was some cursing and headaches involved but he made everything fit. He also took the canister from the collector end and welded on a flange to hook it to the turbos exhaust side. Sounded great! It is a feasible swap and does work if executed correctly.

to me it sounds like he swapped in a different turbo. the exhaust doesn't have 'full-potential' out of it. I don't believe the stock turbo can have full boost near 3200.. It starts building boost then. I ported my turbo exhaust and get full boost around 5k now.

first time i looked at it I thought, hmm, i can do that better, throw on a slightly better turbo. I do have plans on adding an intercooler.

I'm not upgrading the turbo on the seca turbo though. It's great for what it is. I do have plans on adding a turbo to a Yamaha R6 for next winter!

Well thanks for the heads up guys. I have been talking with a few other people and with the work I would need to do I think I woudl get in over my head. When I was talking with some people I actually got an offer to sell the bike so I am considering that due to come unexpected bills. I love the bike so that is by far a last resort

Yes forgot to mention it was a bigger turbo that he used. It had the rectangle type flange on it. Oh wait I did say it was a bigger turbo!

I am not sure if it was the free flowing header to the flange or the larger turbo that was bolted to it.
