I have an 82 XJ650 and want to bob it. I love this site and thanks for all the info you guys put on here! Anyways, I want to get rid of the cheesy big rear fender area by cutting the frame just past the shock mounts. My question is where do you guys get these cool bobber rear fenders? I dont have the equipment to make one, so is there anywhere I can order one that would fit really nicely on my bike?

rex, you might try modifying your existing rear fender to get the look you want, remove chrome & paint to suit you pleasure. There are plenty of guys on here that have done bobber projects, I'm sure someone with more experience will post for you. Try a search of the forums for bobber projects/fenders or something like that to see what others have done.
Good luck & post some pics, everyone loves to see projects as they progress.

Rex, try checking out www.jirehcycles.com. I got my fenders from the Harley side and they have a HUGE catalog they can send you that has tons more in it than on the website.

They have a metric side, but they seem to think METRIC=CROTCH ROCKET...

Thanks guys! I think I will mod my existing fender after finding someone on here who already did it. I'm posting pics in a new post, check em out. I can't get pics to show up in my post though so....

I used a boat trailer fender on my first bobber. I got it at Northern Hydrolics for $21. It fits perfect between the frame rails on the XJs. I think it was 7" wide if I'm not mistaken. I bolted it thru the frame rails on the side and used an L-shaped bracket to the cross brace under the seat and it was nice and solid.

So I am definitely using the stock fender. It looks good kinda held in place. Sooo...now my question is what is the best way to fill in the old brake light mounting holes, etc.?

I was going to go with the stock fender as well till we hit the Tractor supply website and I saw one of the trailer fenders. A few of the guys here seem to run and like them too. So if you have a TS anywhere you could give it a look.

That fender is for a smaller tire so it would be the wrong radius for a rear fender on your bike. You will need one that is made for over a 14"-15" wheel atleast.

Rexeven, that is the biggest tan motorcycle seat I have ever seen located conveniently next to your ashtray bucket! My bike came with neither of those accessories.

hey man - try Bondo on it - i think thats what its called.
ive never used it but ive heard of it being used for minor dents in cars and refining body work. i was gonna try it out on my fender before i realized i might not even throw it back on :p
