Last summer I rode my Seca 750 from Colorado to Iowa to see the National Motorcycle Museum before they shut down for good. Fun ride, and the little Seca never skipped a beat. (couldn't say as much for one of the almost new KTMs that accompanied me)

I wanted to use my Zumo 396 to navigate, but I needed a way to mount it. The Seca still has the original padded bars, so not really any way to put a standard RAM mount on them. I didn't want to drill any holes in the fairing because, well, because I didn't want to drill any holes in it.

My Seca has the full touring kit with the fairing that has the little "glove boxes" on the side. I rarely use the glove boxes because they really only hold about 1 glove in each, and it's a hassle to get the key out to open them every time. But it seemed like a good location for the GPS which would keep it protected and easy to view.

So, I modeled up and 3D printed a replacement for one of the glove box doors, and came up with a mechanism that would clamp into the same slots that the key lock clamps on as the screws were tightened. It actually clamps a lot tighter than the original doors, which tend to rattle around. The wires feed through the door into the fairing where they are wired in to the bike for power. Nothing visible. The Garmin quick release mounts to the door so the GPS pops off and on with the push of a button. No modifications to the fairing itself and is completely reversible.

Note that the clearances are really tight to the bars when they are turned. Took me several iterations to get the spacing just right so that the GPS clears both the side of the fairing and the bars. I don't think you could fit anything larger without there being issues. (sorry, no Zumo XT)

I think it came out pretty nice though and worked great through the whole trip. Adds a nice touch to the "high tech" 80's digital dashboard. ;-) If anyone is interested in the same mod, I can probably dig out the CAD files.
