i have a 1981 650 maxim. im turning into a bobber. i like that fat tire look. but right now i have struts where the shocks should be and the stock 130 tire. i got a rear swing arm rim and tire with mono shock off of a crotch rocket not sure what it was off of cause i didnt get to see the bike but anyways the tire is sprocket drivin and i have a shaft drivin bike. i dont wana waste my time askin how to go from sprocket to chain cause thats a waste of time its easier to get a chain drivin bike. but was wondering is there anyway to change the sprocket wheel to a shaft style. thanks or just swap wheels and deal with the 130 tire and use the new swing arm. thanks

I would think a machinist could make an adapter to bolt to the sprocket bolts then bolt to the drive spline. Bearings and spacing is gonna take thought. Look on Deans cafe project thread he put a virago wheel that has spokes.

Back in my younger days, I had an idea about modifying a Stock Swing-arm to let me have a wider tire on the back.

We figured a cut from as close to the Drive Shaft as we could get (Leaving just enough room so as the Drive Shaft wouldn't rub) ... running the cut forward ... to just aft of the Bearing Pin ... square across the back to the same spot just aft of the Right Bearing Pin ... and taking a good bit of stock on the return cut to the Rear Axle would work ...

IF ... we had a HIGHLY SKILLED WELDER fill the )-shaped material removed and welded-in ... I-shaped BILLET Aluminum with a good-looking and especially strong weld.

    Precision Cut Swing Arm
    Precision Fabricate Sections from Billet
TIG Weld Sections to Swing Arm
ALL Parts and Labor ... (Only) -- $865.00

    Case closed.

Check with the member plumber he removed his drive shaft cover and was going to run a wider tire. His was a hard tail though. I know taking the rear tire off with the 130 on it seems pretty snug, to me not really sure how wide you could go for that reason
