When i pulled the cylinder block off again to redo the orings (they now fit!). I accidentally torn a corner piece of the paper gasket. Is there some way to repair it without ordering a new one?

Dab some Hylomar or other case sealer in that area to "glue" the torn gasket.

All the aove will work. The shellac will be a royal PITA to remove when it comes time, but you won't have any leaks in the meantime.
