I was ripping my carbs apart this weekend to replace the throttle shaft seals.

Happened to notice that one of the butterflies was damaged.

It looks like someone put tiny dents in the sides , and tried to sand it smooth again.

When in place, it doesn't seal perfectly....I can see a tiny bit of day light through it.

Is this something I need to worry about?

Possibly. I'd look for a new butterfly. Chacal probably has a source on them...

Consider how little air it takes for the bike to idle (butterflies barely cracked open). Any extra air rushing by will throw off the pilot mixture, making it leaner. You may be able to compensate with the mixture screw, but IMHO it's best not to rely on any "work-arounds" with these carbs.

My only concern is the shipping costs associated with a single butterfly. $6?

    ummm....no thanks.

I would say the damaged areas are about half the diameter of a paper clip in four spots.

Joshua, I have a spare from a 550 (Mikuni BS28 I think) that I could send your way. If it's a match. But if this is your 650 you probably have Hitachi carbs?
