    Hi All

After stripping down part of my XJ650 RJ (82) engine to clean the carbs etc, I noticed a small amount of oil around the cam chain tensioner, at first I thought it was were the gasket joins the block but after cleaning the area I've found a small crack running along the rear part of the tensioner.

My question is: Is it possible to cover this area with a chemical metal filler, such as Plastic Padding Chem Metal (it is solvent resistant so shoudn't crumble!)?

    Cheers
    Lea

I would try it before sourcing a new tensioner. Let us know how you make out.

Just my two cents, but I can't see why not, if it was mine I would J B Weld the crack. I can't see it being a problem, worst that could happen is it will crack off. Hope it helps

If the part that cracks has any effect on the tensioners' ability to do its' job, you grenade your engine.

    Get another tensioner.

"Good eye's" finding that fracture. Like the man said ... that goes undetected and suddenly fails ... you're day would have suddenly gone bad. I hate to think about what might have happened.
