First of all, I just wanted to say hi to everyone. I am brand new to this site as I have just recently learned how badass you can make an
XJ. I plan on buying an XJ within 1 or 2 months and turning it into a hardtail bobber. Until then, I will be snooping around and doing my research. So without further delay, here is my first question.

Is there a site or can somebody simply explain all of the different XJ models? Like I said I'm new to this but at first I thought there were 550's, 650's, 750's. But I just found one for sale locally that is an XJ700S....

What do the letters after the model number signify? I have seen s,x,n, and others I believe. Are all of the bikes pretty much the same? If somebody could shed some light that would be great. Thanks.

look at our supporting vendor XJ4EVER at top of forum list - he has a breakdown of the VINS that lays out what models were built etc. You should find everything you need there.

Excellent, I found what I was looking for.

Just curious, what does a Seca model have that a Maxim model doesn't? Also, while looking for a bike locally I have seen a few Virago's. These look like a Maxim from the picture, but are they not? There is no mention of Virago's in the VIN sticky that I just read.

And finally, are there any year and/or model XJ's that I should avoid at all? Thanks again.

    Viragos are not xj models

Seca is a sportbike like styling - Maxims are more cruiser style

Have never heard of a bad XJ model

But some models sold more so there are more parts still floating around. I can't tell you which they were but it's definitely harder to find parts for some of the bikes.

That is true for plastics and some other pieces but I believe most essential parts are available...

hey mystic, glad to see someone from my neck of the woods on here!

good luck with your XJ. I have learned how hard they can be to tune, but once there, they run forever.

    mine is getting there slowly.

Thanks for all the quick responses guys. As long as they are all similiar I guess the year won't matter because I'm going to be chopping it up a little and making a bobber. Getting rid of stock lights, gauges, seat, etc....

Helmet- where abouts are you from?

not possible i think Chacal has naked pictures of Genichi Kawakami he has been holding on to for years :) ..... he probubly has a permanant supply of New Old Stock as a result. :) either that or they still produce them just for Chacal to keep the pictures off the internet. :)
