Has anyone used an EBC disk (P/N: VMD2023LS &RS) to replace the factory part? My right disk is warped. I also have to do a caliper rebuild and potentially a master cylinder rebuild. I was just curious if there was any installation or operational issues. Has anyone put a procedure together on this technical chat area to replace disks on the Seca's?

Well, it is looking like no one has tried the EBC disks out. Can you still purchase the OEM part? If you have to replace a disk on a motorcycle do you have to replace both sides not just the damaged side? There seems to be a safety washer on each bolt holding the rotor in place. Can they be reused?

Used ones are plentiful and replacing just one is acceptable. The lock tab can be reused if removed carefully. There is a member near you that should have one for you. His name is @hogfiddles in Hubbardsville . He’s doing the NY carb clinic this weekend so he may not answer right away.

I have read of people who used the EBC discs, but I don't think any of them are active members anymore. I can't speak to the correct part number for them.

I have EBC rotors on my XJ11. They were a direct fit with no modifications needed. Braking is nice and smooth now.
Len provided them for the Vintage Yamaha rally a few years ago and I got them.

i put a EBC disk on the back of my bmw and it seems to get surface rust faster than the front oem ones. that might be a problem on a dual setup

Thank you for the information. I think I am going to look for a used OEM disk. Hopefully in better shape then mine.

Question, rebuilding calipers. The red paste that comes with the seal kit are you supposed to spread that on the outer portion of the piston or just a little on the seals? Will this paste contaminate the dot 3 brake fluid I put in the system? Should I be able to insert the piston by hand or do you need a c-clamp to seat it in place?

The red grease is fot the seals so they don't tear when you install the piston. It is compatible with all glycol-based brake fluids.

The piston should be able to be started by hand, and you might need a c-clamp (depends on the temperature when you're working IMO), but make darned sure that the piston is in the bore straight.

K-moe thanks for the reply. I have parts on the way from Chacal. I have to install new caliper pistons. The originals are pretty pitted up. I am hoping this fixes the binding problem on the right rotor. If not, I'll be looking at the master cylinder next.

Unless you have owned he bike long enough to know when the master cylinder was last rebuilt, it's best to do the whole system at once.
Yamaha specified a 4 year line and seal replacement schedule for the OEM parts.
