My friend and I are going through the XJ bit by bit getting all the old stuff replaced b/c it's been sitting for 2 yrs before being given to me. All the bikes he has worked on have a pretty obvious fuel filter, but we can't find one on the XJ.

Any thoughts? Is it integrated with the carb somehow and we can't see it? Integrated with the pet valve assembly? Doesn't have one?

This bike was run with old gas in it and we just want to replace the fuel filter if there is one. We are getting ready to rebuild the carbs so maybe we will find it then.

    Thoughts?

The bike has (had?) a fuel filter of sorts integrated into the top of the petcock, it's the tall brown thing at the top of the pic:

The carburetors probably also have (had?) tiny half-dome screens in the float valve inlets; they can come out and stay out.

Fit an inline fuel filter almost immediately.

I say "had?" in both cases because they're often missing.

Put an inline filter in by cutting the fuel line basically in half. I use a 90 degree type to allow for easier routing of the fuel line. There is no 'factory inline' installed.

Thanks! Any idea where I can order an online fuel filter? Are they year/model specific?

you can get one at a decent shop or dealer...90 degree ones are nice, like a buck or something like that.
