So i was wondering i need to do a oil change on my bike really soon. I live on the oregon coast where the temp is between 40 and 65 all year round. What would be a the best oil to use? and how do you check to oil in the drive shaft and back drive? I see a nut on top? or is it all connected and oiled from the engine?

the shaft itself is dry. there are seals.

The gear oil in the back is drained through the plug in the bottom and filled via the plug on the side, not the top. 80w gear oil in there.

I have a xj 650 . Do not know about year or any other detail but police bike. Engine number 37G 000383. The engine is running hot. I have found the valve clearance is to tight. Are the two connected or is there something else wrong as well.

India.....yes, incorrect valve clearances will make the engine perform poorly, and that will lead to overheating.

By the way, is your bike a 1985 or 1988 model? Or.....???

Speaking of drive oil, I have seen that a lot of people have said they put synthetic in. Any particular brand anyone swears by?

In AZ, temperatures are much hotter so would I need different oil for mine?

i just put 75w90 synthetic in mine. i dont notice any difference, not that i expected to. i used mobil1 just because it was what i had leftover from the mustang. we run royal purple in the race trucks but thats really expensive and probably does nothing more than make us feel faster because it comes in a pretty bottle and cost a lot. :)

DONT FORGET TO CHECK/CLEAN THE MAGNET ON THE DRAIN PLUG!
