so i just picked up my first motorcycle the other day, and its a 83xj750 seca. and supposedly it runs great, but i may never know at this point the guy said it just needed some moinor wiring work, well whatever he did he really screwed it up. i have the minimum wiring diagram and am going off that but i was just wondering if someone could tell me exactly where the acg is located and also the coil pickup. im slowing sorting through this whole mess of a wiring harness and figuring it out but this would help, also any other tips thanks alot

    Get a book.

These bikes have a safety circuit, that (depending on model) can include a sidestand switch and sidestand relay, in addition to the clutch lever switch, neutral switch and safety relay. A failure anywhere in that system will keep the bike from starting.

You can't go off the minimum wiring diagram if you're working with anything near the original harness.

Pick-up coils are located under the left side round "TICS" cover (actually called an "oil pump cover" or "crankshaft cover" by Yamaha). You can actually check their (electrical) condition without removing the cover; check the resistance of the lead wires coming from the pick-up coils at the 4-place connector shell that plugs into the TCI......
