I just changed all the fuse wires to in-line fuses on the 1982 xj750seca that I got for free, and, when the dash lights are working, the start button does nothing. If the dash lights are out(no power), the start button clicks like it is actually trying to start the bike. I installed the in-line fuses becayse the actual fuse board was broken and melted at one end of the 30 amp main fuse. I have checked each fuse, but none of them were out. I have not had the bike running yet, but I think this is a major problem to resolve first. Any help from anyone?

Take a Multimeter and get the voltages before/after the fuses with the bike in the ON but not running...

Sounds like the wiring got crossed. Did you by any chance poke around in the headlight wiring? I crossed to connectors of similar appearance on my FZR (wasn't paying attention) and had very similar results. Hope your fix is easy.

Thanks guys, I will take both suggestions. I have not touched any of the wiring before I replaced the fuses. I do not know if I will ever get this bike running, so I might just end up parting it out. Im going to work on it a little more and at least get the electrical issues resolved. If I can get that far, I should be able to get this bike running.

Don't give up too easily, it may be a fairly easy fix. Got a digital camera? Take some pictures, post them, and we'll all chip away at it.
