    Hi there,

I just bought a 83 xj650. it needs carb work but more important electricAL work.

On my ride home with it I flipped the high beam to on and my head light went out, along with the break lights, signals, dash lights, and rpm gage...

Any ideas what happed? Any ideas on what to check?

    I appreciate any help

your fuse box probably gave out, a common problem on these. check the fuses and plan on replacing the fuse box real soon. then go to all the wiring connectors and un-plug, re-plug them a few times.
give them a shot of brake cleaner and a dab of dielectric grease. such as http://www.amazon.com/Permatex-22058-Dielectric-Tune-Up-Grease/dp/B000AL8VD2
you'll be good for a long time

    Hey Polock,

I noticed you referenced a dielectric grease on amazon... do you have an idea where to get more electrical parts that need replacement? I have a melted 3-white-wires connector on a 1985 xj700x. I was looking on this forum's "parts catalogue" and copied parts numbers, but not sure how to order here. I would like to at least clean the other connections as well, but wouldn't mind changing them either as I currently have no spark.

Below are some of the parts I was getting ready to buy... Any help is appreciated!

here's every connector man has ever invented but it would be easier to get them from chacal
    http://www.mouser.com/amphenol/product-line/
    Heat-shrink tubing http://www.goldmine-elec-products.com/
Di-electric grease you need to find someplace like this http://www.cardello.com/products/
CROCUS CLOTH if finer than 2000 wet/dry paper, so use 2000 paper and go easy
Aftermarket electrical CONTACT CLEANER = brake cleaner
    Liquid Electrical Tape home depot
for chacal, click the add in the top right corner, i'am sure you'll see a e-mail address there
