So I would like to redo the paint on the engine for my 82' 750. However, im not sure what the standard heat range is for the bike so I Have no clue what to purchase. Also, i dont have access to a sandblaster or anything. WOuld a good scrubbing and sanding to remove loose paint suffice?

Most people seem to like Aircraft Stripper. It is a solvent type paste that removes paint of alloy parts. It can be found in hardware stores.

Sanding would do if you can get all the paint off, will look patchy if you don't. It is a lot of work and fun to try and sand in between all those air cooled fins!

Any paint that will handle over 200 F should be fine. I know people who have used normal Plasticoat spray cans with good results.

    Schaf1cm,

I just did this to my 82 XJ650RJ. I used PJ1 Case Paint in Gloss Black. It seems they reformulated this paint and now the Gloss is about as shiny as the Semi Gloss used to be. The Semi Gloss they sell now is too flat, IMHO. I'll post some pics later.
