Exhaust Bungs (Seca650) - Purpose?

    Besides getting snagged on high things and getting damaged, what is the purpose of the bungs (plugged with bolts) near the end of the head pipes, just before going into the collector?
    Yes, I reopened a wounded one (tore out the epoxy the PO had "fixed" it with) when going over a high spot. No more jerry-rigging, will have to have it welded...

    Idle mixture tuning at the factory, they screwed their sensors in there. I have one that is buggered up as well from impact.
