I've re awakened my 81 XJ650 from it's slumber. Replaced the coils and it now runs. On the initial shake down ride I noticed the RPM not dropping quickly as it should. That usually means a vacuum leak. It is idling high now even as much as I have backed down the idle, it doesn't really respond. The throttle cable isn't hanging up. When I fired it for the first time before the shake down ride the rpm would drop like it should.

I took a reading of the exhaust runners and found a major difference in EGT. 1&2 were running about 250 deg. 3&4 were running around 450 deg. Found it very odd that one side was that different. I do have 1 carb to cylinder runner that is cracked up which is on the cold side and didn't respond to the ol carb cleaner test.

I cleaned out the carbs last year only to have gas in them once when I found out the coils were bad, and they have been without gas since until this week. The vacuum fuel shut off is new. The plugs, wires, and coils are new. All post carb runner bands are tight and in place. Jets and balance settings haven't been disturbed. The fuel rail distribution rail had now o-rings installed last year.
Only thing that that is in question right now is the seals and o-rings in the carbs them selves. They were replaced about '02 and the bike has done over 30k mi since then. till about '11 when the ex made life difficult. It did get started and run at least once ish a year till about 4 years ago. hopefully some fuel may "rejuvenate" those?

    So my questions are:

What are typical EGT on the exhaust runners during initial idle and right after a ride?

What would cause the left pair of jugs to be running hotter than the right?

I'm scratching my head over this one.

    Thanks
