I want to remove my exhaust pipes from my XJ900 as they are very rusty and I would like to clean them up and repaint them.

1.So the big question is what should I know before I do this?
2.Are there shimms where the pipe connects to the engine block?
3.What tricks should I use to ease them out?
4.How do I keep from braking off a mounting stud?
    5.Any suggestions at all?

As always anything you all can give me would be greatly appreiciated.

    Regards,

    W. D. :p

Ok good to know. My stud bolts are really ugly looking and I too do not want to brake one or more off. So I will make to use that long before I start removing them.

Also will I need new gaskets of some sort?

    Regards,

    W. D.

my 750 had gaskets where the header meets the head. I will make the assumption that the 900 does as well. check with our resident parts guy, Chacal. Or check his parts list in the sale forum

yea kroil works but you have to let it sit for a while, thats the only drawback.

Kroil does amazing things. It easily beats every other penetrant I've ever used. Only downside for me is I can't get it locally.
