I found a 1981 Maxim 1100 full dress in the junk yard today, My question is, Will the exhaust pipes from the 1100 Fit on my 550 ? It would be great if they do because there mint, Also i bought the left front caliber and master cylinder assembly, They should work in my 550 i think, the look very similar, Also i got the rear air shocks off of it for my 550, they look pretty new also. Do you think i will have any issues with the caliber and rear air shocks putting them on the 81 550 ? Also what is the pressure ratings on these shocks? I will post some photo's later.
By the way, For the rear shocks caliper and master cylinder i paid $20, I think that is a steal.

Exhaust: Definitely not. Completely different size, diameter, bend, etc. The only head pipes that will fit a 550 are from another 550 or a 600 maybe. Not from the biggest of the bigger XJs.

You lucked out on the brake calipers, the 550s, some 750s and the 1100s have the same style calipers, other models are VASTLY different.

The master cylinder: maybe, maybe not; the XJ1100 had dual discs, your Max only a single disc. The 1100 M/C has a larger reservoir and larger displacement when the lever is squeezed; it may or may not work correctly.

Shocks will possibly be too stiff, the 1100 weighs a good 150lbs more than your 550. You might be able to adjust for it, maybe not.

Be sure you rebuild that junkyard master cylinder and caliper.

the master cyl should fit but it would be awfully touchy i would almost be afraid in a panic situation that you would lock up the brakes very easily it will flow double the amount as your single disc does if big fits says its the same caliper i am sure it is.
looks like the 440 has been outside for a while might be worth tinkering with but i wouldnt expect to much since its in the junkyard most of the time they are there for a reason but who knows good luck on what ever you decide

Yeah but do you see what I see on the Kawi?

BELT DRIVE. Hmm.. a belt-driven XJ550. Been thinking about that one myself... I wonder how "transplantable" the pulleys might be?

I dunno. The XJ550s are chain driven, and both Seca and Max have a relatively large rear sprocket. I've been seriously considering looking further into it-- did you happen to get the year on that Kaw?

Brand new alternator brushes for the 550 are only like $20. Hope you didn't pay more than a couple bucks for those.

Like Rick said, you could make a new friend for life and/or a tidy profit if you can get the complete exhaust off the 1100 for cheap enough.
