    :)

Can the Red RTV gasket material be used to seal the connection between the the exhaust header and the out going pipes? I have a possible slight leak from one of the cylinder at that connection and just wanted to know if that stuff would work to seal it.

    Thanks,

    W. D.

    Probably not.

I had a leak where one of the EGA plugs had been "scraped" and its little dimple was pulled away from the pipe slightly; I fixed it wth Milliput which is a two-part epoxy putty that hardens to near indestructibility.

I'd use something like that, or automotive exhaust sealer or replace the gasket there. Doubt RTV would hold up.

Ok I will have to look for that exhaust gas fixer material that you referenced. Again thanks for the input.

Just looked up Milliput. That stuff sounds crazy. Not sure if I'm clear on this, Fitz - and perhaps I'm reading it wrong. Can it be used AS a gasket? Or just as a way to fix cracks in the header pipes?

Why not just go to the dealer and get the right stuff? They may even have some laying around they might want to get rid of.

Sound advice, I'm sure chacal carries them as well.

I wouldn't use it as a gasket; I used it in desperation when I discovered the exhaust leak. That was over two years and 6000 miles ago and it's still fine.

Milliput is some amazing stuff; I discovered it because it's marketed through hobby shops for scale modelers and crafters. Turns out the manufacturer claims you can use it to repair about anything from mufflers to "cisterns." (British product.) It's only heat resistant (supposedly) to 130*C (266F) but it's held up fine so far. Maybe it doesn't get as hot there as I had imagined, or it works well beyond spec. http://www.milliput.com/home.htm Handy to have around.

I used 'Loctite High Temp Red' for the headers/collector box joins, it's still as good as the day I put them together 6000Km later, was fairly liberal with it and let it set for a day. Couldn't use the stock seals as I had to replace the rusted ends of the headers with slightly larger pipe. I'm assuming it's the same stuff as Red RTV (what does RTV stand for?)

RTV = room temperature vulcanizing, basically means it dries at room temps
