Here's a quick question I noticed this morning in central Ontario that my bike did not want to wake up without full choke and then it hicoughed a little. I run Yamalube 20/50 and in the summer it works great does anyone change to a lighter oil in the fall?

    Thanks,

    Paul

Ruby only needed a hint of choke to wake up this morning, i think it was like 5 degrees or something outside. I have no idea what grade is in her. I haven't changed the oil yet, cause the nice couple I bought it from just had the oil changed a week before I bought it.

I know, never trust the PO, but they were quite forthcoming with info for the stuff they've had done with it, I have receipts for all parts needed for it over the past 2 years etc.

The first number in multiweight oil is supposed to be its "base" (cold) weight, then it "behaves like" whatever the second number is once warm. So in theory, 20W40 and 20W50 will behave the same cold. If it gets real cold, you MIGHT want to go to 10W40, but I don't think you're going to be riding when it's that cold. If you let the bike warm up just a bit first it should be fine. In all the years I've been riding (and wrenching, cars included) I've never "adjusted" oil weight for seasonal change.

ok no problem yeah, once warm it runs like a charm and idles between 1100 and 1200. This is the first fall for me as I only bought the bike last October. So she is almost a year old for me. This winter it is tank painting and cable replacment. :)

    Cheers,

    Paul
