It was originally burgundy, the paint was in bad shape and the tank had dings all over. I painted it with dupli color semi gloss flat black and threw 4 coats of clear. I por -15'd inside of the tank, put new fork seals, new tires, got rid of a lot of rust on headers and painted those, got rid of rust on coils springs and scrubbed the hell out of the rims and all the coated alluminum bits.I dont think they'll ever be perfect, but they look 100% better. I re- skinned the seat, and replaced plugs. Now I just got to change the oil/filter and throw in a new uni filter and Mr. Maxx is ready to roll.

Man, looks great!!! Is that a custom decal on the side of the tank or what? Looks like the tuning forks with flames coming off, very nice!

that it is Joel. I was originally going with a silver racing stripe, but when I went to put it on I thought it was too wide. So, I went with those flaming tunning forks. Thanks!

Looks pretty dog gone good. Must have beena lot of work and a lot of misunderstandings with the better half(or worse half). Wish I had that kind of time. Great job!

I have to Tip My Hat to you, brother ... nice work. Looks like you really put some heart into it. I took my recently restored 750 Max for a little spin, today. A tour of the White Mountains in New Hampshire!

thanks guys! Hey Rick, sorry I couldnt make it to the clinic. Iknow I said I would on the phone, but the wife got called in to work and I had to stay home with Jr., so it blew a hole in my plans for that weekend. Wish I could of been there even if the turnout was weak...I do have a question for you though, or for any body else that can answer. On my X, I'll be riding for a bit and when I have to come to a stop it picks up a high idle (approx. 2500-3000 rpm) and stays there. Iv'e played with the idle adjustment knob underneith the carbs and bring the idle back down, then get back on and start riding and when I stop it does it again. The bike runs great till idle. Any help or suggestions would be great. Again thanks bros. for the compliments!

Bike look really nice, great job. I loike the look of the bike, not sure what it lookedlike when you started, but I like the end result for sure. Where did you get the decal for the tank if I may ask? Thanks...

Something like that could be a number of things.
I guess ... first ... you should check the cable tension. Run the engine while you're sitting on the bike and move your handlebars lock-to-lock and see what happens. If nothing happens ... good! If the engine runs faster; you have a cable tension or binding problem. Very common! Also give that cable some slack at the Knurl adjustment at the end of the cable that attaches to the throttle grip.

It that ain't it ... we're on to carb adjustment time. For that ... you'll have to do some tweaking. That process I'd rather do with you over the telephone ... PM - or - email me at: XJ900Owner@aol.com and well go over a few processes that ought to get you smoothed-out!

Re: finally got Max-x done (4 now at least) what do you thin

thanks "kbarmansr". The bike was burgundy wine color and the paint had all kinds of spider web cracks in it, as well as dings and pitting+rust on a lot of the chrome. It took me three paint jobs to get it so it looked half decent and alot of fine steel wool and green scotch brite pads to clean up the pitted + flakey alluminum. The decals came from http://www.isitfast.com/motorcycle_decals.htm
