I just realized that my float bowls don't have drain nozzles on them. I am hoping to get them all back together tonight now that I have parts (thanks Chacal!) but now won't be able to check the fuel level. Is there something that I can find at say a hardware store that'll work? Am I missing something here (I'm at work) but I need to connect the tubing to something...

Some models of carbs have nozzles on them and some don't. If the hole is big enough you might be able to stick a piece of tubing inside the hole but I glued some pieces of copper tubing into the holds with JB Weld on the carbs that didn't have nozzles.

82 650 has Hitachi carbs with drain nipples. The Mikunis on the 550s don't have them.

Are you sure you have a 650?

You might want to post a picture of the float bowl, a picture of the bottom of a carb (with float removed) and a side view of the carburetor. Maybe we can identify what you have.

Yup, it has them. My memory wasn't as good as I remember...

Carbs are all installed now and I can definately see why people HATE doing carb jobs on these bikes! Getting all the rubber boots to fit into the airbox and on all the carbs is a huge PITA, that's for sure. I don't have any baffles in the mufflers (and a dead battery) so I didn't try to fire her up in fear of waking my one year old (bad situation if I did). I'm going to give her a go tomorrow after work. I made sure the throttle cable wasn't hitting anything and the fuel enrichment works as it should so there SHOULDN'T be any problems getting her to run tomorrow (yeah right).

    Wish me luck!

I know what he's dealing with. Recessed ports for the Drains instead of Nipple ends.

You can force a 1/4 or 3/8th Diameter piece of tubing in the Recess and it won't leak.
You can still do Float Height measurements.
You just need a tight-fitting piece of hose to fir that.

Cut a 2-inch section of solid rubber hose and fit a 90 degree union in it and then add the right diameter clear vinyl hose.

    That will do the trick!
