I thinking about buying a project 1980 maxim and the ad says it needs a new floatbowl gasket. How big of a deal is this?

Float bowl gaskets are easy, remove carbs and replace. If it is a project there is most likley lots more that needs attention. As with any newly acquired old bike, brakes, fuel , electrical, suspension, all these will need some kind of work. Don't rely on the seller to disclose all the truth about his bike, bring a friend who is familar with motorcycles and let him have a look.

And Tires and and and. More than likely it has a stuck float and is pouring gas out.
